Hello all, I just bought a new 2014 Tacoma TRD Off Road Double cab Short bed this weekend. The 1st 2 purchases I would like is a bed extender & tonneau cover, but I'm not sure where to start. I know you'll probably have more questions for me to answer my original questions, so I'll try to include all I can think of.

Should I go with the stock Toyota brand bed extender or do you recommend other 3 party extenders? I will be hauling fire wood & typical home repair materials. I saw one on another truck that hooked into the rail system that allowed the extender to slide up against the cab of the truck. It looks like the Toyota brand has just 2 positions. Thoughts?

There are probably an unlimited amount of different tonneau covers out there, so this may be hard. I'm leaning toward the tri-fold soft type. Sorry, I don't know the exact language to use yet. This is my first truck. Any & all suggestion are welcomed. Thanks.

Welcome I also just got a 2014 Tacoma . Mine is access cab 4x4 automatic. I just ordered a Lund tri fold tonneau for mine from Auto Anything and should have in a few days. I can update you if you like when I install. If you ever buy anything from this company I have found to let it sit in my cart for a day or 2 and they will e mail you a 10% of code everytime and sometimes a 15 to 20 % off on certain items but have never seen bigger items discounted this high. I also ordered and am putting in today a bed extender. I ordered the factory one as I do not want to use track system at this point as I may be buying tool box set up and still want a little clamp usage for tie offs. Good luck . These trucks have so many cosmetic mods offered it can become expensive. I thought being I have a performance car already modified for performance I would get off easy with just a couple cosmetic mods on truck but boy was I wrong. There is so much cool stuff. Today is 1st day I put stuff on (first day nice enough) outside to take my time do them right without freezing to death. Just got to learn to budget a bit better being retired with time on my hands and income not like when I was working.

    Thanks 2004c5ae
I'll look into the Lund tri fold & the trick for the discount :)
Maybe I'll just get the stock bed extender. I'll wait to see if anyone suggests anything else.
I can also see all the potential for spending a lot on this truck. Loving it more everyday.

Wow, that backflip product looks really good. Please update us on installation & what you think of it. Unfortunately for me, it's a bit out of my price range. I ended up going with the Lund genesis tri fold. Found the cheapest price on Amazon $309. Just installed it today, pretty easy install; though there was 4 little left over pads I'm not sure where they go. There's a picture, but I don't get what the pads would do. The Lund looks pretty good & fits perfect. They even include weather strips so it seems like it will keep water from getting in the bed.

As for the bed extender, I ordered the stock Toyota part; again from Amazon $220. It hasn't come in yet, hope install brackets come with it.
I'll update once I get it.

On aside note I also got a bug deflector II from AVS. Don't know why but this thing was a pain to install. You have to put 4 pieces of 3M protective tape on, which on a brand new truck; I want it to be perfect. It was cold out & my hands where starting to get numb. The tape was crooked & had bubbles (I was ticked), but it got covered up by the deflector. I also dropped a few screws down the engine compartment due to the cold. Found them, then the deflector wasn't perfectly lining up with the holes. Fast forward through a few curse words & it looks good on my Tacoma.

have a Lund Genesis Tri-fold and it is holding up really good. Very minimal amount of water gets in the bed and the best part is the easy install and removal if I want to use my whole bed.

    I like it.
