Thank you everyone for all your input. I think after what i've heard here....just gonna stick with the stock one. Hey, on a lighter note.....Does anyone ever lay awake at night just thinking of new shit to do to your truck??!! Or is it just me???? HA! That's what I thought.

Not going to quote all of Justus' post, but 95% "^^^ this". Only disagreement I have is on the Maf Cali switch need. My opinion is "why bother", but that is just a personal opinion and not a big deal.

Keep in mind that many, if not most, that post that the stock is fine, have not run anything but stock. It would be great if those with opinions would actually post what actual experience they have.

Personally I have run the aFe drop-in, a home grown setup where I plumbed a Volant scoop into the stock airbox, an aFe Stage II SI, the URD, and the URD+MafCali. I did notice a gain in the high rpms with the aFe and the URD, verified with 1/4 times, and adding the MafCali to the URD feels better, but I don't have any hard numbers. The other mods made no difference in perf or mpgs.

On the 4.0, any NA CAI mod will only show noticable gains at about 3500+, below that, only thing I noticed was noise. So for "normal" daily driving, a CAI is noise only. If you spend some time above that, might be worth it to you, unless you like the noise. BTW, I didn't like the aFe intake noise, so I sold it. URD is much more acceptable if you can handle the open element behind the grill limitations.

I just didn't like the maf cal running a lean map all the time

I agree the afe can be very obtrusive on a naturally aspirated truck... The cabin noise is surprising, but the urd is a nice growl since the filter is up by the grille and far from the cabin and void of the "box" that I believe the afe resonated in and caused the intrusive racket.

I will say this, once supercharged the afe is VERY different and I can't hear the resonating sound at all now.

Can't quite get the wife to agree that I need a $4k SC to tame the $300 CAI noise :eek:

First thing I did. Then I threw my stock intake back on. Couple months later got the AFE. Cleaned the maf and throttle body and put the AFE on
And that's why IMO its better to save yourself a couple hundred dollars. If I'm spending that much I want to notice a difference

The TRD intake for the 4.0 takes air from the exact same place as the stock one. It's design is just less restrictive. All other things equal, air density has the largest influence on HP. Air density goes up, fuel consumption has to increase to maintain the ratio. More, cooler, denser air just allows the engine to burn more fuel at the optimal ratio. More fuel=More power.

Just replumbing and dumping a filter in the engine compartment is NOT a CAI….
