Figured after owning the truck for almost 2 years now it was time to start a build thread. This will be a pretty slow and mild build while it is a DD. This is the second toyota pickup I have owned. As soon as I pay it off in the next year or so and get another DD I will dive into a full build.

Here was my last toyota build. (SAS, Dual Cases, E-Lockers F&R, Caged, 37s, etc). It was a fun project and I learned a lot building it, but life always gets in the way, and at this point it has been almost completely parted out.

Anyways out with the old in with the new.

First things first, the stock stereo was severely lacking, I am an audio engineer by trade. I did not want a ton of low end, just a decent stereo that sounds good and gets loud enough.

I install a Pioneer AVH-X8500 Headunit, new 6.5" pioneer component door speakers, disabled the roof speakers, and added a pioneer shallow mount sub.

I was never happy with the steering wheel functions and the after market stereo, the BT on the pioneer was hit or miss, and I was not a huge fan of the fit and finish of the aftermarket head unit. I ended up pulling everything out and selling it off to the buddy.

I reinstalled the stock head unit, used an Audio Control LC2 Line Driver, Alpine PDX-V9 Amp feeding the same pioneer component speakers and a JL 10W3v3 Sub in a custom enclosure. I have been really happen with the setup. It gets plenty loud and sounds good enough for my needs.

I ran the wiring to add some rear door speakers when I was wiring the truck, but it is a slippery slope if I decide to add them, because I will need some more low end to keep up.

Audio Control LC2 installed behind the stock head unit.

Custom sub enclosure. I looked at adding a center console sub enclosure, but I am always putting stuff in the back seat and it would kill most of the room back there. Also I needed the sub to be easily removable when I need the extra room in the back seat.

The wiring still needs a bit of work to clean it all up, but it gets the job done for the time being.

I bought a set of F&R Billstein 5100s, but decided to go another route before I installed them. I sold them to someone local.

I decided to go with an ICON Stage 3 kit with the tubular uppers instead of the billet. I have had the kit sitting my the garage for a couple weeks now, just need to order wheels and tires for it and a free weekend to get it all installed. I will post up pictures when I get ready to install everything. No need to post up a bunch of teaser pictures you all have seen before.

I order my wheels and tires middle of last week, Method Racing NV Series 16x8 wrapped in 285/75R/16 BFG AT. They were supposed to be ready to pick up yesterday, but the wheels didn't ship out when they were supposed to so hopefully they will be in on Monday.

Yesterday was suspension day, I finally had a weekend off. The plan was to get the front done yesterday and the rear today.

The install went significantly faster than I thought and was pretty straight forward. The front end took about 2.5-3hrs start to finish. I was expecting to have some difficulties getting the UCA bolt out, but a little sheet metal persuasion and it was good to go.

The only real snag I ran into was not being prepared with a 12-point 1/2" socket for the UCAs.

The new lifts gave me exactly 2" of lift in the front.

    Out with the old

Rear end was pretty straight forwarded, ended up finish it up in about 2hrs yesterday with some help from a couple buddies. Removed the stock overload springs, and install the ICON AAL.

The only issue I ran into was mounting the rear reservoir, there was supped to be a way to bolt the mount to the frame, but there was no mounting location in the frame. I ended up drilling and tapping the frame to mount the reservoirs. I went through and primed and painted the frame to keep anything from rusting.

The picture is a little deceiving, there is about 1/2" of clearance on the shock hose and the frame.

    Final setup

I am a couple months behind on this thread so here is all the catchup.

Wheels and tires finally came in, got them mounted and balanced. Method Racings NV Series rims wrapped in BFG KO AT 285/75/16 tires.

There was quite a bit of rubbing in the front so I decided to chop up the body mounts. This was the first attempt the afternoon I get my wheels/tires done.

I thought I had enough clearance cut out, but it turned out to not be enough when I got my alignment. This was also a bit of a rush job it was 100F+ the afternoon I did it and was over it.

Looks good! Did you have to do any trimming for those tires? I haven't bought rims or tires yet. Planning on staying with stock for a little. Unless it looks really awkward.

Never mind you beat me to it!

Once I got the truck aligned, the rubbing was a much bigger issue. I ended up fixing it right the second time.

In the first picture you can see where the tire was still rubbing.

Take your time welding, you will destroy the factory body mount if you don't.

I do not have pictures of the finished product yet, but I will get them posted later today. From what I can tell after driving for a week or so all of the rubbing is gone.

Looking back I probably would have gone with 1 size smaller on the tires, I still need to cut down the pinch weld to make sure there are no issues at full stuff, but at the point driving around town I haven't been able to get it to run.

I didn't mind the look of the stock wheels at all, I drove it around for a month or so before I had time to order my wheels/tires.

Thanks for the offer, I don't have my planned for it in the bear future, I might build a set of sliders for it. I'll let you know next time I'm going to do any work on it.
