I wanted to make a thread that showcases the wheeling possibilities in Iowa and also other states in the Midwest. Anyone is welcome to post pictures as you discover places that have good trails to explore. Also post in here for any upcoming events around the Midwest, as well as discuss anything wheeling related.

To start this off, Kurt and I went down to the MIOBI grounds south of Knoxville, IA. They have many acres of trails ranging from mild to wild. I was able to confidently navigate most trails with a 3" lift, 33" tires, and open diffs. Similarly equipped trucks would be fine. I came out with only minor scrapes from tree branches, no body damage. Always wheel with a partner and recovery gear though!

Feel free to view the photobucket link below to see some of the terrain we encountered. Enjoy!

I'll play! Here are a couple pics from wheeling at my parents place in NE Wisconsin.

Look at that IFS articulation! Did you disconnect your swaybar?

I deleted the sway bar right after the lift.

I should do that or add quick disconnects.

I will probably be doing quick disconnects. Mine wasn't "hooked up" since I have broken end links right now.

Yesterday a couple other Des Moines guys and I went to the MIOBI memorial weekend off road event. There were only a few other yotas there; a lot of jeeps, buggies, and redneck mud trucks. We tried to stay out of the mud, but there was plenty to be found through the trails. This is the 3rd time I've been on this trail this year, so I knew what my truck could do and really tried to push it beyond what I thought it could do. The supercharger is awesome when pulling up steep climbs. The 4runner and fj both got stuck once and had to be winched out. I didn't get stuck at all. I think it was the longer wheel base that helped the most, but the dynapro mt's show their strength again. They plowed through everything. It also gave me a chance to test out my shock relocation. Everything went well. The ride seems about the same now as before. It was a fun day.

I slid the top of the cab against a tree so I got a scuff there, and I ripped the hose off my windshield washer fluid bottle with my tire. I will probably relocate that with something smaller. Otherwise no issues.

Went and checked out an off road spot in north central Minnesota. Spider Lake is the area. It sucked to be honest. It was over 20 miles of jeep trails, but you could easily prerun them. They were wide and fairly smooth. Boring, really. I'm disappointed, but now I know.

I got out wheeling friday and today. I went up to Jackson County and explored all of the count roads, logging trails and old mines. It really was a blast and If anyone is in WI and is interested in seeing the GPS maps and way points of campsites.

This weekend was really fun and really expensive lol. I went with a couple jeep guys from Madison to The Cliffs Insane Terrain offroad park in Marseilles Il. I was not sure what to expect when I got there becasue all that was in the parking lot were some beat jeeps (heeps), and a ton of quads. I was hoping to avoid the mud but that became apparent that would not happen as soon as I hit the first trail.

At some point on the trail, possibly when I hit the really deep hole where the water came into the cab, I managed to so thoroughly soak my alternator with muddy water that I killed it. My battery light came on coming off the last trail of the day and there were many cuss words exchanged. Keep in mind at this point I am 2 hours plus from home and in a different state... We made the call to drive it as far as the battery would take us after pouring water onto the alt to see if we could get it working. We made it all but 10 miles south of madison when my abs light came on and the radio cut out. Next thing I know im super low on power and my tach is going nuts... We pulled off at a gas station and went through my tool box to see what we could jerry rig up to use my aux battery which was still fully charged because my ACR isolated it when the front battery stopped charging. I was able to use a short piece of 2 GA wire to jump the terminals of the ACR. I thought I might blow a fuse trying to start it with the back battery, but she fired right up and we were back on the road! :guitar3: We went right to the local carwash and tried to blow out any mud still in the alt, but no dice it was dead...

I found a screaming deal though on an alternator reman from Advanced auto that is just down the road from my place. I bought it for $130 with no core and a lifetime warranty. What I am going to do is rebuild my Denso and then put it back on and keep the Advanced auto one as a spare. I ended up just swapping in the new alternator in the parking lot of advanced which was super simple actually lol. I think I had the old one out and the new one in, in less than a half hour.

Well then yesterday when I was washing the truck I was unknowingly funneling water into my rear diff by way of my extended diff breather. One thing I can tell you that if you do that mod, cut a new hole, don't use the one under the gas cap to run it through :/

    Damage Report:

    1x Alternator
    1x Botched Diff Breather extension
1x rear diff flush for the latter
    1x stretched parking brake cable

Pretty much this is what everything looked like in the whole park... I hate mud...

I did get to pull out this jeep though lol. He dropped into a SUPER DEEP rut there are some other pics of the other side that shows his fender under water completely.

This excursion was a little out of his element I think... It was a completely stock diesel with some A/T's on it. He also had what looked like his entire family in it with him lol, and they didn't look like they were having fun. The trails were almost too tight for the 4Runner I am not sure what he thought he was going to do.

    IMG_8963_85b00e6c115d10044ad6ae4dd110e6f1b1c33a85.jpg

Here is the hole I got stuck in where the water came into the cab and I think where my alternator said Fu@k you! The only pick we have since we couldnt exactly open the doors lol

    IMG_8970_13a8e31178eae09211b4bd67005fd804c8439f1c.jpg

I thought the bottom of the is hole was a little more solid then this lol, I stopped just before the rock, my spotter was then fired lol. Had to be winched backwards. This was still better than the other option which wasn't even big enough for the jeeps lol.

I mud soaked the alternator on my old truck. All I had to do was take the brushes out and clean it since they were stuck with mud. Pretty easy fix.

Don't have many pics right now from the Iron Range OHV in Gilbert, MN. It's a decent place, lots of trails of varying difficulty from core trails to 33" tires/3" lift/winch required. There's a few mud holes but its mostly trails and rocks as this was an open pit iron mine.

This actually looks like a nice place to take the GF and kid wheeling. Nothing too crazy
