    For those of you that are finding codes when your CEL comes on, are you going to the dealership? Or do you have your own scan tool?

    Went to have my battery and alt tested at O'reillys and the guy testing it said it's against the law for them to scan vehicle codes in California due to liability. Is this something I have to take to the dealer?

    ScanGauge II or an

    UltraGuage, whichever suits you. I went with the ScanGuage in mine.

    They can read the codes, which you can lookup online, as well as reset the CEL.

    The funny thing is, O'Reilly's probably sells them. I know Autozone sells the SGII.

    They also display other things that you specify, so it's not just a code reader/resetter.

    He said they sold a "handy dandy tool" inside just for scanning codes. $70. I didn't have the money so I didn't bother looking but I will now.

    On a side note, while changing plugs over the weekend on my 02, I realized I was missing the rectangular black plastic part that reads "diagnostic" on the top. If I recall on my 01 with the same motor, it attached by the intake plentum on the drivers side.

    just get a scaneguage. there only $60 and do way more than just read and clear codes.

    $60 is much more my speed but the fact that the scan guage can read a/t temp has me wanting it for $100 more.

    That's one of the reasons I bought it...

    ...only to find out that there are no XCodes that work with my '97. I've tried every one I've come across. Damnit.

    So are you saying the x-guage codes that work for 01-04 trans temp don't work for your 97? Cause I have a 99 and am wanting to get the scanguage so I can read trans temp
