Thanks again for the tips everyone.

I had a road trip this past weekend and ran premium, seems to have eliminated the noise.

Had knocking all this time (11000 mileage) with 87 octane from Costco Gas. Finally filled up with 91 octane and the knocking went away and truck runs so much smoothly. Hope I didn't ruin my engine by waiting this long.

So the dreaded tick/rattle/ engine noise can be cured with higher octane fuel? How many tanks does it take? After 1 premium tank I'm still knocking away (70 degree temp today).

It was immediate for me. Drained the truck to 1/8, filled it up, no more knock. I'm running 90+ (whatever the highest at the station happens to be)

I typically use racetrack gasoline, I'll try another station tomm.

I have a buddy from work that has a Tacoma that had detonation issues. He installed an oil catch can and the knock/detonation went away. Just a thought if you think the engine is detonating. It makes sense.
