So I have decided to board the tablet train. I need one that I can surf the web, do music and movies, stream netflix etc. I don't want a data plan so wifi would be preferred. I dont really plan on using it for writing papers etc. I also refuse to own another apple product after my iphone. Thanks for the help.

Google's Nexus is the best bang for your buck. Only negative is that it doesn't have a micro SD card.

For basic usage (web, Netflix, wifi only) I found that a lot of the cheaper Android tablets work just as well. It might lag a little, but I'm not a heavy user anyways. I found mine at Big Lots on clearance for $60.

I would avoid Samsung tablets if you are interested in staying current with the latest versions of Android. (Well that might not be really fair, we bought a couple of Samsungs a few years ago and they dropped support for new Android versions before they were even 6 months old. They may have changed their policies in the mean time, but for me the damage to their image has already been done and we haven't bought one since.) The consensus in my IT group is Android is the wild, wild, west of tablets. If you are into hacking your devices and don't need support, because you are your own support, Android is the way to go.

Personally I've come to the conclusion that Android and iOS both suck in different ways. Pick your suckage and enjoy. :D
