I'm looking for some advice with an aftermarket exhaust. Just bought an 08 DC TRD Sport and it came with a magnaflow exhaust on it. Seems louder in the cab than outside the cab. Inside it's almost annoying. It kinda rattles my brain after a while and fatigues my ears. Any how I looked under the truck and saw two black soot spots and felt some air leaking. One spot is right before the muffler and the other is toward the engine where two sections bolt on.

I took it to a local muffler shop that has a great reputation and he said it's all ok. The bolt on location he said was a gasket and that he could replace it but it would just go bad again. He said the leak before the muffler doesn't need to be repaired and that it is all legal. He said he was willing to fix it but he would feel bad taking my money. While I admire that it just doesn't seem right to me.

So my question is, could these leaks be causing the excessive cab noise? Should I get a second opinion?
    Thanks!

I believe some of the excessive cab noise could be what's called "drone" where certain exhaust systems get loud in-cab drone noise at certain RPMs. Got pics of your exhaust or more info?

Thanks for the replies. I can try to get some pictures up tomorrow.

Any suggestions on a different muffler that would be less susceptible to the drone?

You might try adding a resonator as some others here have. There are other exhaust posts currently on the first page with some information.

My subi had a resonator if I remember correctly, and it didn't help much that I could tell :-/

Had an 02 tundra and the stock resonator made quit a difference on it, I paid for it to sound mean, it barely made a pur, took it back he chopped it off, and she sounded mean!

Thanks for all the replies. After looking around a bit more I'm going to swap out the magna flow muffler with the Dynomax Super Turbo. Seems to be well like on TW and lots of reports of no "drone".

Got the Dynomax Super Turbo installed today and that helped alot. It's a little quieter than the Magnaflow but sounds deep and throaty.
