Has anyone heard or had problems with the OEM roof rack rusting at the screws or water accumulating at the screw housings? I am thinking of installing the factory rack because I need more cross bar spread (approx. 43 inches) but heard this might be a problem.

The screws by where the cross bars go in has some rust on top. It has only been on the truck for 6 months.

Hey Craig thanks for the reply... do you think silicone or other water sealant would solve problem or is it water sitting in housing/screws that accelerates the rust?

I think these might be the pivot screws for the cross bars in which case they are "special" screws but I am not sure. Jus heard rumblings that the rack is poorly designed and water accumulates within all screws/housings which accelerates rust needing to change out screws premature.

They are the only screws that I have noticed and once the weather gets nicer I will pull them and see about new screws or repaint. Water can lay in them.

Never had a issue on my 2011. I will say there are plenty of places on the OEM rack that hold water but no issue with rust.
