I have a 2012 tacoma and the abs kicks on when im driving on dry pavement.

Does anyone know if the abs sensor reads off the Wheel hub or tone ring on cv axle shaft?

It will kick in, if you brake hard on dry pavement. It's designed to not let your wheels, to lock-up/skid ( wet, or dry)

There was a recent recall on certain 2012 and 2013 Toyota vehicles which included some Tacoma's. They are of course VIN specific and this recall relates the the ABS system. It is a software update that is now available. You can check your VIN at the toyotacare website to see if your truck is included.

I never had an issue with my ABS system but my truck was under the recall. I've had the software update completed at the dealership. I have noticed no change in the behavior of the truck, but I didn't sense any issue before the update.

Just FYI - may or may not help you out.
