I was getting my tires changed the other day and when the tech had the truck on the lift he showed me there was some play in the front passenger wheel. Looking behind the wheel I could see the jam nut was backed off about 1/4" from the outer tie rod and we diagnosed that the outer tie rod was bad.

The guy that put the new tie rods on said it looked like the old jamb nut had just backed off and the outer tie rod might not have even been bad, but he went ahead and replaced them all anyways (obviously - might as well make the money).

When I got home I threaded the outer tie rods onto the inners and couldn't feel much in-and-out movement at all but the threads do have some rust as you can see. I also couldn't budge the inner tie rod bearing, which is a good sign. And the inner tie rods look pretty good in general.

Just wanted to throw these out there for anyone who offroads and needs a spare set of tie rods incase something snaps.

These are off a 2009 TRD sport that has 106k - purely highway miles. I know Toyota charges like crazy for the inners, so since these are fairly used, I figure 30% of the original cost seems reasonable, so I'm asking $100 + shipping/paypal fees OBO for everything. This is less than the cost of one inner tie rod alone. Doesn't come with jam nuts or castle nuts.

Also, if anyone has any opinions on the condition of the tie rods, please chime in

Not a bad idea to have as a spare, but I'm also at 106k, and my inners have a ton of play in them when they are installed. The weight of the wheels and hub and bearing assembly may be enough to show some play you couldn't see just by tugging on it by hand.

Still a good set for a spare... Just can't justify spending
$100+ on a part with 106k on it.

Valid points - I'm definitely open to offers. They're just going to be sitting in my garage anyways...
