Pretty much decided I'm going to lease a new 2014. Some thoughts...

It's going to be a work truck, and I can justify the monthly payment. Going to go Magnetic Grey accesscab SR5, Auto/4.0

I was kicking the idea around for a long time of finding a good price on one with mileage under 100,000 kms (60,000 miles).
    There were a couple:

    * JUST missed out on a 2007 TRD access cab, white, 45000 kms (less than 30,000 mi) for $25,000, at an out of town Lexus dealership.
    * There's still one at a nearby Toyota dealership - 2007 base model, US model, with 100,000 km (60,000 mi)... $18,800.

    * Various other private sales that look attractive.

HOWEVER... it seems risky to me to buy something older than a couple of years old, and without some kind of a warranty. Hence my decision to go brand new, but I'll lease, with the idea of buying out after 3 yrs. It'll be a 4.0 automatic. I'm just sick and tired of shifting gears and being underpowered.

I've got a friend interested in my '97 4cyl standard accesscab 4x4 Tacoma with 255,000 miles on it... $3500.

I'm self employed and Toyota wants to see the numbers from my 2013 tax return, which I still need to file.

So as I prepare to take the plunge, I have a few thoughts I thought I'd share and see what kind of feedback I can muster up.

    * If I exceed the mileage on the lease, but do a buyout anyway, will that still be an issue?

    * One of the first things I plan on doing, other than adding a canopy and roof racks, is ditching the stock rims and tires. I've read many, many threads on guys going 265/75/16 or 265/70/17 but with aftermarket rims having issues with tires rubbing, the solution being removing the front mudflaps. I'm really not into the idea of modifying anything, plus I'm in a rural area with a lot of gravel driveways, etc and I'd rather not risk tearing the crap out of the paint.
I'm strongly considering the Mickey Thompson III's, which look very similar to the ProComp 7069. However, rather than going 265 I'd probably get the same tires I've been using on my '97 Tacoma... Kelly TSR's in 245/75/16 or 245/70/17.
Going with 245's will keep the dimensions pretty much the same as the stock setup, but I wonder about the backspacing of the aftermarket wheels... to get something that will clear the calipers, will there still be any risk of rubbing? Certainly with 265's there is, but 245's...?
