...as long as you have another computer w/ a CD/DVD drive, or a stand-alone CD/DVD drive... you should be able to just copy the contents on the disk and paste it onto a USB stick (using windows explorer, etc...). then copy the contents from the USB stick to some place on the computer HDD, ...and generally there's a "setup.exe" or some such thing you run to go through the installation... if copy/paste doesn't work, you could try making a ISO copy of the CD/DVD, and then transfering that to the USB stick....

Gotcha. I'm gonna try to do some more research and see what we can come up with. I'm sure I will have more questions

I usually include CD/DVD in PCs I build for people for various reasons but Internet security you're buying at walmart is most likely garbage.

ESET Nod32 is the only AV I'd actually pay for. We use KAV at work for our users and its a constant source of frustration for us between its outlook com addins fucking up office and its constant need to scan all network traffic, the anti-spy function locks up PCs, etc, etc etc.

Yeah I've seen that shit. It couldnt find tits in a whore house. Just use NOD32. It catches most things and its light weight and not constantly bombarding you with crap.

For malware just run malwarebytes free version once a month or so. depending on how bad your parents are with PCs. Some of my users I have to run it like once a week.

"OH This webpage says my drivers are out of date!! better download this random driver update program...."

I bought a Dell Inspiron 13 (Intel Core i3 processor, 6 gb of memory, 500 gb hard drive, Windows 8) for $399 on sale from www.newegg.com

It is more than enough to to web browse, watch videos, and pay bills when i'm not home.

Realistically they do not need much and anything you buy will be a vast improvement over their current computer. AMD will be the more cost-benefit as it will be less expensive but offer relative equal performance for common tasks.

I would recommend 4 gb memory "minimum" and find one with a DVD drive so you can still use CD/DVD discs if you so choose.

just found that, not a bad deal

edit: forgot to add you can download a free program called Classic Shell and bring back the Start menu (I've used this for older couples I support)

HPs are garbage. if you're going to do a prebuilt atleast buy a Dell or lenovo. They're not much better quality wise but their warranty service is better.

Is that the EST NOD32? I searched nod32 and thats what came up. I have already downloaded the malwarebytes about a year ago on mine and their computer so he already uses that. Also I downloaded on ours the SuperAntispyware programs as well.
