    Hey guys,

Changing spark plugs on my 99 2.7 4 banger for the first time. As I went to pull the wires, I noticed that a wire seems to be spliced into the #2 plug wire. Following it from the splice it goes into the cab.

So, excuse me if this is a totally noob question, but what the hell is this wire? Is it normal and how do I proceed to change the plugs/wires?

Picture should show what I'm talking about, the spliced in wire is in the black tubingPhoto on 3-29-14 at 5.45 PM.jpg

    Thanks

Doesn't look to stock to me replace it with the new wires. The split loom maybe some thing stock if so just put it back on if it runs over some thing that might chafe the wire.

Splice into a spark plug wire? Never seen that before (aside from grounded wires). I guess I would suggest try to track it from where it enters the cab. Maybe a tach signal of some sort?

Do you have an aftermarket tach in the cab? Insanely poor reason, but the only one I can think of.

    Not stock.

That's fucking lame, hopefully it's just wrapped around the spark plug wire. Pull the tape off and see.

You don't have to go that far. Just strip a piece of insulation, touch it with your tongue and have someone crank the engine. You'll know if it's hooked into it or not.

    (Don't actually do that)
