Got a 08 Tacoma 4x4 trd sport with the 4.0 and it misses like crazy from time to time and is getting worse by the day. Hooked up the scanner and its showing no codes and reading no misfires from the engine. its kinda like driving something without gas. run good one minute and like hell the next. its not coils or plugs so what would cause this? When it acts up it smells like gas. makes me wonder if its feeding itself to much fuel????

Has your fuel mileage gotten worse? Usually that can be a sign of bad 02 sensors aswell, which might not throw an engine code or CEL. I would pull the mass air flow sensor and clean it with electrical parts cleaner and make sure all connections are fully plugged in on each coil pack and 02 sensor if you already haven't done so. It could be an 02 sensor, but the intermittent behavior is kind of strange. I would think there would be a stored/inactive code in the computer.

Fuel mileage is terrible. And everything is plugged in good. Also has a new MAF sensor .

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
How old are the spark plugs?

Smelling gas is often a sign of spark plug issues (in my experience anyway) Did you recently change the plugs? I've seen plugs back themselves out or not be tightened to proper torque, and cause horrible fuel mileage and gas smell. I once had a similar issue like yours on an old chevy tahoe, turned out i had a bad catalytic converter. The bad part to your issue is that since there's no active or inactive code, there's no way to tell which 02 is bad (if that is the problem):notsure:

I put new plugs in 4 days ago. All tight. Gas smell seems to be coming from exhaust. Which makes me think it's dumping more fuel than needed and flooding itself out. Fuel trim was high on bank 1 so I'm guessing cats or o2 sensors on drivers side? Both upstream and downstream.
