Are "driving lights" legal?

I just installed these hood mount ditch lights and was wondering if they are legal here in Texas.

I have looked up Texas Transportation Code etc, and there is a grey area it seems. Talks about height, distance, only 4 lights on at front of vehicle at one time, etc.

Anyone have some input?

 

i know they are illegal here in louisiana.... a cop told me that any fog lights are illegal which i dont understand why.... ive gotten plenty of light tickets here in LA

 

Its gray, but look at all the wranglers with them on there. My XJ has them never a problem, I had them on my CUMMINS and no problem. Ive been pulled over with them and they never said anything about them, but asked another officer and he said it was a no go. Had 6 Kc's on my 81 Yota not me previous owner put them on, and I never got stopped.

 

Im pretty sure those would be illegal in New Jersey.. You can't have any lights about the headlights on the road i believe.. Not sure about texas though it all depends on laws and shit

 

There are a lot of grey areas in most all states, but in general you will find that "driving" lights, or lights that are on while driving on streets and highways, can not be mounted even with, or above the headlights. Those are classified as "off-road" lighting at that point, and are legally only able to be turned on when you are off a named road. Also in many states, off-road lights must be covered unless you are off-road.

That being said, many police won't bother you if they are not on while driving down the road, covered or not. However they CAN if they choose to. Each state of course has their own laws, but I know that when I was living in Texas the rule was no lights on even with or above the headlights when driving down a named road.
