Ive been hearing a humming from the rear lately. More so when I let off the throttle and coast
There's also a fair amount play in the pinion it seems (when twisting the shaft back and forth) . A lot more then what should be there Imo
truck is a 2012 TRD sport. Has 15000 kms.

Rear end problems common? How much lash is in your pinions?

I will prolly drop the oil in it tonight. Though I shouldn't have to as its still new

    Its 2 hours away =(.
Are these rear ends problems? Is this going to be an ongoing thing? or should i just upgrade the thing.
I'm contemplating throwing in an E/Air locker.

    I'm gonna say there's about 1/8 - 1/4 pinion backlash

If your rear whines when you leave off the gas it is a pinion bearing. If it whines when your on the gas it is a carrier bearing. If it is still under warrantee then back to the dealer.

1/4" rotation of the pinion flange isn't unusual. Remember that also takes up all the clearances in the third, like those between the spider gears, before you get resistance from the axles.

Noisy rear = warranty time. Don't cover it up with thicker oil just to have it go south out of warranty later.
