    Hello everyone!

I'm new to the site and this is my first post!

soooo yesterday while driving through a snow storm I was able to utilize my 4x4 for the first time. However, I was concerned about a particular sound while accelerating and deaccelerating around 1200-1300 rpm in 4 high. The sound wasn't quite a grinding sound but close to that, with a slight vibrational feel to the gas pedal. If I tried to maintain those rpm's it was a countinuous issue. Anything more or less in RPM, the sound was gone.

has anyone experinced this? this normal?

    I have 2010 automatic v6 4.0L double cab

I've just started the same problem. A scraping sound at 1200 rpm while accelerating only; same sound comes up while accelerating at 1900 rpm to pass vehicle on highway. I don't think it has anything to do with the 4x4 because this was occurring with the the 4x4 off AND on for me. And some vibrations too. Same deal, once the rpms were out of 1200 (and 1900) the scraping sound was gone.

i just got back from the dealership. we took a test drive and he said it was a loose heat shield. back at the shop we lifted the truck and he showed me underneath. there was still the old ring clamp clinging on. I'm going to buy a stainless steel strap clamp and secure it in place to confirm this is the problem. I'll post pics and let you know the verdict.

Ok awesome that would be great

My sound is only when I have the 4x4 in gear.

I was just curious if this was normal sound or something I should have investigated.

I look forward to your inquiry

ok. the diagnosis from the dealership and my fix-it worked! First check your heat shields underneath to see which one(s) are loose and scraping against your exhaust. For me it was the one beneath your left calf in the drivers seat, which is tucked just behind the chassis (first picture)

    I used a 1-1/2" - 2-1/2" stainless steel pipe clamp (second picture)

with a socket wrench i tightened the heat shield back in place (third picture). it's a bit of a tight space but easily done. Just find your comfort and grip and you'll get it.

took it around the block for a lil test drive and played in the 1200rpm range and it's back to normal!!
