My truck has been squealing and knocking lately. It's a strange knock not a valve or rod knock. After pulling off the belts I noticed the pulley on the balancer moves freely. I can slide it on and off the balancer. The pulley has also been contacting the timing cover I think this is what was causing the knocking. Is it normal for the pulley to be loose like that? Does that mean the balancer is bad? I was thinking it was the belt just being loose.

thats what mine looked/sounded like but it was only when i have a load on like my heater or headlights. its squeaking because its slipping around the rubber core and its wobbling for the same reason. Replace it sooner rather than later, heres my hastily assembled thread on what i did wrong and how not to do what i did wrong. BUY A DAMN CRANKSHAFT OIL SEAL and dont be like me.
