Family finances and other things have forced me to buy a less expensive vehicle, but I still want something trailworthy. I am leaning towards a Short Cab base model 4x4. There are a handful of dealers that list them at 23.4k around here, new, for the AT model.

My mods, for now, would be an EMU lift, 17" steelies, and 285 Pro Comp's. I'd like the bed linered and then throw either an ARE or LEER topper (above cab height).

An AllPro bumper might be in the future, but that's cash I don't have/aren't willing to spend.

    Questions:
-What is the CHEAPEST I can beat the dealer down for a 2014 Short Cab BASE AT 4x4? Whatever money that's not going towards the truck will go to the lift, tires, and toppers.
-Is the MT "better" in any way? I can row gears just fine, but I want a truck the wife can drive as well, and she hates manuals.
-Will transmission choice affect me being able to install lockers in the future

I bought a regular cab 4X4 automatic. Got mine for 1K under window sticker but had to pay the doc fees.
