I just went from Nitto Terra Grapplers 285/60/18 to Nitto Crossteks 265/75/18 purchased from Big O Tires. I've been in the shop three times this week since purchasing on Sunday and they can't get the tires balanced. My steering wheel shakes from 50-65 Mph. The manager told me he could add weights to the wheels/tires. I also have KMC XD HOSS 18" wheels.

Is this the solution, adding weights? Or is it Big O Tires? Should I go to another tire? I've never had a problem with balancing before so all of this is new to me.

Help....I'm headed for a road trip to Arizona next week and I need to make sure I don't have any issues.

they are not doing it right, there is a special balancing part needed to help balance Toyota rims properly, I went through this for a couple of years, finally found a Discount Tire close enough to me, if 2 hours is considered close, they did the deed, smooth, smooth, smooth...

not all shops are equipped properly, heck, the shop where I bought my current set of tires was in California, America Tire (same company), and they didn't have the correct attachment for their machines either, go figure...had to get a redo, every tire/rim was out by about 1oz+, it made a HUGE difference...

don't give up, they can be balanced as long as the rims run straight and true...

It's been months, miles and different Big O Tire shops later...and they still can't balance the Nitto Crossteks they sold me. This was my first experience with Big O, and I will never recommend them to anyone.

The steering wheel still shimmies once I hit 55mph, and gets worse as speed increases. It's to the point that I feel unsafe. Does anyone know if this is a safety issue other than a bad drive and possible bad wear/tear on the tires?

I'm at the point that I'm going to demand my money back. Their customer server was so good that they sold me on the entire package deal (lifetime wheel balance, alignment, etc.) and I regret it. They do not have the equipment to back their productr/service.

Does anyone know of a tire shop in North San Diego County that does good tire service?

Unfortunately the problem has not been resolved and continues to get worse. Last time I went in, they "zeroed" the tires. Which was fine for a couple of weeks, but now they're bumpy when it's cold and at an incline and sometimes randomly. By bumpy I mean I can be driving on a smooth road then all of a sudden my front wheels start to bounce and the entire front of the truck shakes. This Friday they're going to check them again. The guys at Big O in Carlsbad have been the best help. They contacted the corporation and may even replace my tires. Will find out more on Friday. Where did you get your crossteks at? Can't tell you how disappointed I am.

Sorry, I know how frustrating it is. I'm having a problem with my BFG AT's and was wondering if you found a shop that could dial them in. Has any of the Big O shops tried to ride match? There is a TWorld member that works at Discount in Oceanside and he may be able to help...let me know I can look him up. I live it Temecula and haven't had a chance to go and see him but will shortly. Mine shakes and it kills me.

what is ride match? yeah, i appreciate any help i can get. is your friend at discount on coast highway or el camino? this is my first time using Big O. In the past i always used Discount and Nitto Terra Grapplers. Big O and Nitto Crossteks = suks big time. what size of tires/wheels do you have? i had 285/60/18 and now I have 265/70/18. Was wondering also if it could be the nitrogen.

Ride match or using the RoadForce balancer is a process that matches the tire to the rim...they use a balancer that puts pressure on the tire and helps find the best place for the tire on the rim...I'm sure someone can elaborate on this.

Sorry the TW member that works for Discount Tire is in Vista off Melrose not Oceanside. I used Big O in Scripps ranch once for a different car and they were a bit clueless as well. I have 275/70r17's.
