in my experience oil is oil... ANY oil will work..

that doesnt mean certain oils arent better than others for certain applications.. i run synthetic in my tacoma because that is what the prev. owner used and it stays super clean for so god damn long.. i run it in my BMW because, well that motor needs it otherwise it runs shitty and burns oil if it doesnt have mobile1.. my honda and ford get 50w of the cheapest stuff around and run great at +100k miles..

use what you like, and use what works well for your application.. the 5vz will run on anything and it will run forever on anything, its not a finicky motor when it comes to oil...

I bought my tacoma from a 1 owner, older gentleman who literally took it to the Toyota dealer every 5,000 miles for service. The dealership has used castrol synthetic blend it's entire life. I now have around 212,000 miles. It doesn't leak or burn a drop of oil between changes. At around 200,000 the head gasket went out. While changing it everything still looked brand new! I couldn't believe it! No sludge or buildup whatsoever.

I think that really says something about the regular oil changes and possibly the oil. I recently switched to Castrol full synthetic and I have noticed a difference. It starts easier and seems a bit more zippy...so that's just my .02

It may not give more horse power but I noticed my engine ran smoother and rev'd quieter and smoother so it gave the impression it was more powerful :)
