People post oil questions to death , this hopefully isn't one of those . I have a 2012 Tacoma Double Cab 4.0l 4x4.....Toyota recommends 5W-30 oil ...So since I've owned it at 33K ...I've used 5W-30 Mobil One or Pennzoil Platinum. Ive done some reading on the variable valve timing these motors have and it would seem to me that oil pressure is a major contributor to how the VVT operates.....I am a big fan of Rotella Oil and would like to use the 5W-40 full Syn. But have reservations on doing so because of the VVT ....does anyone have any solid info on this or can shed some light on it ? I have no issue continuing the 5W-30 grade oils ....but if the 5W-40 can add some protection and not hamper the VVT operation I'd be good with that as well.......This is not intended to start a brand war, I have a lot of experience with Rotella Oil thru the diesel engine I work with and around and over the yrs it has earned my respect.....Hopefully some dirt under the finger nail gear heads or yota techs can speak on this....
