A quote from one of your links:

In my post I stated that there is no such thing, but I should clarify this statement. It used to be a common practice a Long Time Ago. Nobody uses this anymore due to improved cleanliness and manufacturing processes, ( the exception being Honda ).

Let me rephrase: Toyota does not use any Break In Oil.

It is not needed or required in any case. Royal purple is a load of snake oil in my opinion. If you choose to do it in your own rebuild fine. Makes no difference to me.

    However this statement
is just flat out Wrong. Without "break in snake oil" Rings will still seat and bearings and cam shafts will not fail.

Anytime anybody touches your car you should check it. All work needs inspection.

I heard auto mechanics get pissed when people mark their parts and tires. Kind of like sending food back to the chef.

Try Gladstone Toyota in Oregon City. They do good work and give free car wash vouchers after the service is done.

The Toyota care thing is nothing more than a sales gimmick and is not done by Toyota certified master mechanics. The oil changes are done by guys just starting out... be afraid, be VERY afraid!

I was given the free oil changes and tire rotation bs when I bought mine. No thanks. First time to the dealer for a free oil change I specified full synthetic. The jack ass of a service manager was brought out to "explain" to me that synthetic is not covered under the free and either they can put conventional or nothing in it my choice. I said I will pay the difference. He said, "maybe you didn't understand me, conventional or we don't change the oil." I told him to get my keys. He said we will back out your truck. It was a battle just to get my truck from them after that point. I got underneath and checked my drain plug opened the hood checked the filter and oil level to make sure they didn't dump anything before hand. And left. Never went back to them until a few weeks ago. About a month actually to get tires balanced since no one else could get them to balance. One damaged wheel, sliced tire, and truck so badly balanced I couldn't drive it. I was in the GM's office. After about 30 minutes of "talking" more or less them telling me I went out and sliced my own brand new tire, and gouged my own less than 3 month old wheel up. I was escorted off the property and told never to return. After calling toyota they said nothing they can do because this dealer ship is a partner of toyota. And it is at their discretion on what they do with customers. I said screw them and went to another dealership about 30 minutes away and not a single problem.

I do the same. I probably wouldn't worry too much about your work.

Now Chris on the other hand..... I would have to find the point of origin of the fire and how he managed to blow a hole 30' deep in the ground while changing the air filter in his Jeep :p
