    Greetings to all,

I have a 2011 Tacoma DC 4x4(TRD). Great truck and work horse for my Louisiana adventures.

    PROBLEM/ CONCERN:
While in 4WD High, and turning the steering wheel I noticed/ felt the front wheels locking up. This only occurs when turning the steering more than a 1/4 turn, regardless of direction. I took it to the dealership were they informed me that's the design.. Sounds a little weird and odd.

Has anyone else experienced this same/ similar occurrence? Or have a remedy?

    Thank you in advance...

    - Cal

You're binding the drive line. It's normal. Not supposed to use 4WD in high traction situations.

Thanks BJBoucher for the timely response and great information. Guess I have to get use to this system versus my 2005 4Runner Sport 4WD.

Yep, like BJB said, if your are on a dry surface, you'll feel that when turning, the sharper the turn, the more reaction. In mud and other slippery traction surfaces, you'll hardly notice it, if at all.

Was your 4Runner AWD or 4WD? There's a difference. I'm not familiar with 4Runners, never owned one.

I've learned all this stuff myself since owning my Tacoma. It's my first 4WD vehicle. Lots of good info on this site.

You 4 runner was selectable awd... All the 4 runners have a center diff so drive lines don't bind. Taco is a mans truck... We put it in 4x4 when we need it
