Pairing Amp with Speakers...Advice Please

So I currently have a set of 4

$58 polk audio db571 5-by-7" coaxial speakers (pair, black)

polk audio db571's i just installed throughout my '03 extended cab and I hooked them up to a Kenwood KAC8405 with a Kenwood KDC-BT952HD Deck....The Amp is actually pretty big for under the drivers side seat and I was wondering if getting an Alpine MRV-F300 would work with my speakers and head unit...I dont really know how to compare amps and pair them with speakers so I'm turning to you guys! The Alpine is 8x8 which is nice because it can hide well under the seat.

Yes, the Alpine will work fine. It's a little down on power compared to the Kenwood, but really shouldn't be noticeable. Make sure you match the fuse on the power lead from the battery to the new Alpine, I think it's 60Amps, and tune the amp with a DMM to prevent clipping at high volume.

I have a fuse already hooked up to the battery that sits in the side wall under the hood... are you saying i need a different size fuse ?

 

You might. It all depends on the size of it currently. I just read through the manual online, and it looks like the Alpine takes a 40Amp fuse on the battery lead closest to the battery. Not sure what size fuse it is, ANL or MiniANL, a pic would be good, and I can point you in the direction of a shop to pick one up, or you could ask at the shop you buy the Alpine Amp.

Hard to tell from that pic, but it's probably a 60Amp fuse. You'll be okay with it in there, as the Alpine has it's own 40Amp fuse too. If you want to be fussy, you could change out that fuse for a 40Amp as well, just to be safer, but it's not necessary. You should be fine with the Alpine amp.

*edit* I just looked up the Kenwood amp manual, and in there, it's two 30Amp, or at the fuse you took a pic of, a 60Amp fuse. You'll be fine, but like I said, if you want to be fussy, get a 40Amp fuse. And that looks like a AGU glass fuse, fyi.

No. It's the type of amp. The Kenwood is a type A/B amp, and those take more power than the Alpine, which is a type D. Biggest difference is that the D amps can make similar or more power in a smaller chassis. There's electrical differences, but that's the basics.

 

The Alpine will push your speakers just fine. If you really want to hide an amp there is also the Alpine Power Pack
