I have a 2010 trd sport sr5 when I start the truck the rpms are at 1500 and don't come down to under 1000 until I put truck in gear. Is this normal?

mine does the same thing i assumed it is just because the engine is cold and it is warming up. mine usually dies down after about 30 seconds or more

Mine doesn't die down until in gear. I let it sit for a while

did you possibly touch the rpm needle at any point and may have caused it to be out of whack with the actual rpms your doing?

my 07 does the same, i wait like 10 seconds before putting it in gear, when the rpms settle down... its worse when its cold, i think its to warm the motor a little...

Could be related to the dry sump oil system. Thats why it says dont idle the truck to warm up in users manual.

It's normal for a combustion engine to rev higher on first start up for a few minutes.

First I've ever heard of a dry sump system on the Tacoma.

Agreed. Never heard that one, or not to let it warm up at all. I will have to go check my manual.
