Help with broken antenna installation

The pros want to charge me $75-100 to replace a broken antenna. Don't have that to spend. Anyone have some tips for getting access to the radio antenna outlet? What needs to be unscrewed etc.....I can deal with the wheel well covering..but don't know where to go after that.

well, if you actually need to remove the old antenna wiring, you pretty much have to pull the whole dash off as there's some clips holding it in place along the main support.

If you dont care about leaving the old one in place, you could just pull the radio ( http://www.customtacos.com/tech/index.php?article=77 - stop at step 5) and the molding under the glove box and run a whole new wire. I believe there is also a plastic protector in the wheel well that will have to be removed to get access to the antenna.

Personally, probably worth the $75-100 to get it done if you're talking about replacing the whole wire and everything, unless you have a few hours to tinker around with it.

Now, if you just need to replace the antenna, I believe that can be done a lot easier by just removing the plastic shielding in the wheel well and undoing a few screws.

 

This is an old thread, but I just had to replace mine, so I'm posting how I did it:
1) I purchased a set of screw extractors -

Vermont American 21822 - 5 Piece Spiral Screw Extractor Set No. 1 through No. 5

2) I used a 1/8" drill bit and a hammer drill to drill into the stub that was still in the antenna mount.
3) I used the smallest screw extractor bit, but it didn't bite, so I went to the next size up and slowly worked the broken piece out.
4) I will replace the antenna mast with either OEM or after-market.
The extraction process (steps 2 and 3) took less than 5 minutes.
