I like the look of the stubby antenna. It looks like removal of the original base requires the fender's wheel liner to be removed. What is the best way to install a new antenna?

Where did it snap off at? Did the whole base break, or just the rod in the air?

If it is the rod, just unsrew it. But if the base broke, i do beleive you have to get behind that liner. Or, check form the engine bay, is there acess to it?? I cannot go out and look at mine right now...

The bolt broke in half. Half was left recessed into the base about 1/8". Can't access base from engine well. Can see the conduit and brackets beyond hinges of passenger door ... but, bracket bolts face wheel well liner. Wonder how to replace with new shorter one as simply as possible. I'm original owner and not very mechanical.

Got lucky. Let WD-40 soak for 30 min. Roughed up the surface of the recessed bolt by tapping it with a watch-size screwdriver. Bolt wasn't rusted or stripped so was loose enough to prod/twist with two tiny blade screwdrivers. Broken bolt is out. :) Now all I need to do is find a simple, short, replacement antenna that fits the OEM base. Any suggestions for my 2002?

I bought a "TRD" shorty antenna on EBay. It's only about 6" tall. Pretty cheap, but it works and it looks great too. Just do an eBay search and it should pop right up.
