I'm in the market for a reg cab 4x4 taco with the 2.7l 4banger.

My question is how wide and big of tire could I clear with maybe just a simple level and a ad a leaf in the ass end?
I don't want the truck sky high and I really don't want the upsize in tires to rape the mpgs.
I need help for experience. Please comment.

235 85 skinnies might fit with a spacer lift. I bet you wouldnt lose any mpgs and perhaps gain one with them inflated like crazy.

you could clear 285's with little trimming. i'm running 265/75r17's and only had to remove front mud flaps and very minor trimming. i'm up 2.5 in the front and 1.5 in the back...

3" lift, Bilstein 5100/OME coilovers, rear AAL, Swiss camper shell, Rough Country 9000 rear shocks, 265/75/16 AT's on stock steel rims painted black, All-Pro 1.5"F/1.25"R wheel spacers, airbox elbow mod, Flowmaster Super 44, Davico post-cat, I took off my DIY angle iron bed/light bar!, bed wheel well shovel-mount, blacked out grill emblem, Poineer DEH-P3900 head unit, Alpine Type R front component speakers, Pioneer Coaxial rears, Dynamat in door panels, scratchbuilt aluminum holders for my ipod nano and phone, and for some reason, I painted the headlight fillers black...
I've got 3" of lift in front and an AAL in back and am running 265/75/16s with no trimming. Tire size is not much more than stock but it's beefier and doesn't make much of a difference in MPG either.
    Edit:
My MPG is above average though because of some exhaust mods and a URD O2 simulator. When air temp is 60-85 I average just over 25 MPG with my 2.7l.
