For me it wasn't so much that I hated it, but there definitely was a learning curve that I didn't care for when windows 7 without the fancy tile screen was all I needed to get stuff done. I played with a mock windows 8 using rain meter and quickly figured out it wasn't suited for me layout wise, as it was a solution to a nonexistent problem. For tablets windows 8 is lots of fun.

Just my opinion as a consumer.

Switch from Ambien to Zolpidem...much friendlier, no side effects and MUCH cheaper.
When you get up at night to go to the john, you're not bouncing off the walls and when you lay back down you go back to sleep immediately.

You might try stopping some of the preloaded stuff. My Note II was sucking the battery down pretty fast after the last update. After disabling some programs, my battery will last much longer. One of the biggest hogs was the Samsung Push Service.

when you install win 8/8.1, you do not have to create a Microsoft account... just create a "local" user account if it's a home PC, and thereafter you can add more "local" user accounts as you see fit... ;)

<flamesuit status="on">BTW, just made the switch from XP to win8.1, and honestly I really am glad I did, ...win8.1 combines the old w/ the new... you have a "desktop" view, ...easy to access it (win key + D), switch between desktop view, apps view, tile view, ...and if you want you can configure it to bring up the desktop when logging in.</flamesuit>

Can anyone tell me how to add a shortcut, to my descktop, in Windows 8? With XP, all I had to do was, let's say I wanted to add Tacoma World, as a shortcut, I would right click, anywhere on the page, and the option Add Shortcut, came up. Not on my Windows 8 Same thing with adding to My Favorites. Can't find that function. I HATE WINDOWS 8!!!

Not a problem. By the way. How do I get around on the Forum? I'd like to make some comments regarding my Tacoma frame replacement.

Go Linux, the driver issue is a non issue, having used linux as my desktop for close to 20 years I've only had one driver issue and that was recently with an ancient laptop and the internal wireless network card. Even my 89 year old mother uses linux, was so great to not have to be fixing it every month after another windoze virus or piece of malicious malware showed up. Of course if you are a pc gamer then pretty much stuck with windoze.

Yeah, you shouldnt talk on the phone, text or be on Facebook while under the influence of ambien. Lol. I work a rotating 12 hour shift and have to take them when working nights.

I did finally get back my computer. Was able to sign in with my Microsoft account. Found some help that said to delete a certain Windows update then reinstall it. After that should do away with the administrator problem keeping me from upgrading to 8.1 . It worked. Starting to learn how to use the new Windows. Just after using xp for so long, hard to find things on 8. Suckers dont come with books

I believe zolpidem is what it says on my bottle. Was told it is the generic for ambien. Feel great when i wake up to hit the pot and go right back to bed. You just have to be close to the bed when you take it. May knock stuff off the walls . Lol

I just saw the title to the thread and just had to jump in with I agree 110% that Windows 8 is shit. They blew the user interface, so all I can say is THANK YOU Microsoft! Heaven forbid that you ever get a clue. I love the job security you have provided me these past 30 years.

When I first sat down with a Windows 8 machine I knew inside of 10 minutes there was no chance I would ever support moving my users to it. The cost for training is going to be crazy. I'm hoping Windows 9 is more like version 7. But, hey if it isn't, well that's just more job security for me. I love training users, and more importantly, getting paid to do it. :D

The most useful tips that's I've found for Windows 8. It's much better and quicker than using a mouse once you learn to do it, imo:

    Windows key + W = search bar
Windows key + X = menu for admin tools (control panel, device manager, network settings, task manager, etc...)
    Windows key + C = charms bar
    Windows key + E = file explorer
    Windows key + R = Run
    Windows key + I = Settings Panel

Right-Click the desktop and select "New -> Shortcut" Then paste or type the URL to the website in the "Type the location of the item" box (e.g. http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum).

Here's a link to make Metro UI tiles with URL shortcuts:

    Another:
Windows key + D = desktop. It'll take you from the metro screen to the desktop screen.

I had a few windows phones before the droid platform came out. They were the most unstable phones I had ever had. They would lock up on me or freeze while I was a sleep so the alarm wouldn't go off in the morning. I was ready to get an I phone and then the droids came out. I swore at that moment I would never own another windows phone. They were such garbage back then. the droid operating system was such an improvement.

Today we had a meeting with our Microsoft reps at work. They question was asked "can you give us any reason to move to Windows 8.1 from Windows 7?" Their response was "Let us get back to you on that." I wasn't surprised. By that point in the meeting it was clear even they thought Microsoft had made a HUGE mistake with 8. But, still I thought they would have had a ready answer to that question.
