is a 2nd gen 8.4 rear end same as 1st gen 8.4?

    I was just wondering if they are basically the same and aside from maybe axle length if parts will interchange. Particularly the 3rd member. I was wondering if one could find 3rd out of an 05+ with the LSD at a salvage yard would it drop into the 1st Gen housing? As long as gears are the same of ccourse.
