Got a nice 1 inch wide cut right in the center of the tread on one of my P rated tires last summer just driving on a freshly graded gravel road. A sharp rock found its way into my tire and it can't be fixed. Now I roll on E rated tires. That was an expensive lesson for me. What kind of tire you need really depends on where you are going.

So what do you all recommend on e rated 33's LT AT KO's I am running 35 and it shakes almost like a low tire. Sometimes feels like it did when I was running 20 psi in them for going off road

Are you confident enough of this to leave the spare tire at home? ;)

Wonder if there's a standardized SAE/ASTM/MIL test to rank the puncture resistance of tires.

Bingo. I've owned lots of vehicles that needed lots of tires so I've done my research and I run C on my Tacoma which is MORE than adequate for the truck's needs. Anything else will just cause lowered MPG's and a harsher ride on a truck that isn't capable of putting a Load E tire to the test anyway. Some say that they hold up better doing serious wheelin' but for most people who own these trucks it's overkill.

Love my E's. I'll fill up tomorrow to get an accurate gauge but from what I'm seeing, my mpg is only slightly lower.

I'm running 45 all around after the chalk test and they seem to ride smoother and not as much noise. Also a crap ton of the shaking is gone. Was running at 35.

My last tank before the new tires was 20.9mpg. First tank with new tires was 19.5mpg. Took a trip into the foothills for some fly fishing yesterday so had some of those miles climbing hills and switchbacks.

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
I have both Es and Cs. The C rides a little smoother, but the E doesn't feel soft when cornering.

I would suggest you do the chalk test to determine air pressure for even wear. Unless you have wider aftermarket wheels, the recommended rim width for the 285 is 8.5, for 245/265 it is 7.0 inches. Could affect your edge/center wear.

I did it again. Got tired of paying truck payments and gas and traded in for a 2015 Honda Accord Sport since I enjoyed my 2013 Sport so much.
I put in LT rated M/S2's a little over a week ago. Got about 500 miles in them. They ARE nice over smooth and even roads but can be quite jarring over road imperfections. And for whatever reason I don't feel as if they can be called "quiet" tires, but maybe I'm just getting road noise and tire noise confused.

My gas mileage has sucked since day 1, highest tank is 18.2mpg with a solid tailwind for almost 150 miles, so I can't really comment on that. However, my last tank I got 17.5mpg over 175 miles with a 10-15mph headwind going 70-77mph.

Do the BFG AT KOs come in anything other than E rated? I've searched discounttire, Discounttiredirect, tirerack, etc and only find them in E. I want some lower rated tires for the reasons people are mentioning here. Sorry for thread jacking.
