Fuel Filter replaced

Spent one hour this weekend and replaced my fuel filter.
I really should had done this at the 100,000 mark... not at 165,000.
Lots of dirt came out of the filter INLET side.

 

Thanks for the post and link! I'm at 102K; I'll be changing my fuel filter when I do my next oil change/driveline lube based on your advice.

 

Bought the filter and a set of fuel line wrenches, the set did not come a 14mm, so need to get one. Truck has 197,xxx on original fuel filter.

 

I believe Toyota, for wrench sizes, uses sizes that are even.

 

This is a pain in the ass on a 1st gen, but it should be done. Toyota says that it's a 'lifetime' filter, but I'd take that with a grain of salt!....

 

It's a lifetime filter if you never use it. Kinda how I look at those warranty's now.

Had mine replaced at 150xxx and it was dirty.

Still makes me wonder what the hell is in the gas tank.....

 

That gray/brown semi metallic looking stuff everyone observes in the filter is mostly the debris worn off the brushes of the fuel pump motor and the armature commutator itself.
Fortunately for our National Forests, the arcing of the pump motor brushes is quenched by the gasoline flowing over and around them. Catching the resultant crap and keeping it out of the injectors is a major part of the filters job.
I change my fuel filter every 100K, same crap each time. Changed out the pump as PM at 200K and found not one speck of anything on the pump pre-filter or in the tank proper.
