Ok so i have normally just ran a winch on the same battery the truck uses but when i get this new one it wil probably be 12000lb so i will assume it would be safe to just go with a battery soley for winching.

I did a search and maybe i didnt search hard enough but couldnt find any answers. Maybe someone can just direct me or give me some answers as to the install and what all to take into consideration when doing this task. not worried about the brand as there is many a thread on that subject. just really looking into how it should be wired and what to do when using the winch. is it stand alone until needed and then you switch the cables over or what? i really havent even ran into anyone who has used this setup but have been aware of it.

i figured i would post here even though it applies to electrical as well. hopefully there is a better and more "from experience" result in here.

    thanks.

Actually having a winch is like having a keg of beer...you got plenty of friends who need to use it:) At least this is my experience. I've always had one until i got this Taco. Slowly I will get to where i want to be with it.

Come on some one has to have a dual battery setup they could post some pics of...

If you're worried about battery usage... Just get an Optima Yellow top as your primary battery. It'll handle the winching just fine.

I had a Yellow Top & a winch on my jeep for years (like 4 years). Never had any issues. We rigged up a hand throttle so during those tough pulls, we could notch up the rpm's while using the winch.
