For about a month I have had popping in my steering and replaced both upper and lower ball joints because they where shot also I replaced both sway bar linkage sway bar bushing and both inner and outer tie rods and torqued everything to spec and all parts are moog. But just in the past couple of days the popping is getting worse I've been thinking that it is either the upper and lower control arm bushing or the rack and pinion bushings. I am at a brick wall for the first time with my truck. It has 191,000 on it and also last year I just replaced the shocks and struts on it because they where shot. The noise sounds like metal on metal contact with hard popping with a little bit of resinence to it when I turn the steering wheel to the right. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Try torqueing the lower control arm bolts to spec

I took a prybar while I was working on everything on my upper and lower control arm bushing and didn't see any unusual movement on it the moved and sprung back but never really looked down in there at them or looked at the bolts. I will do that tomorrow

Could be the lower control arm bolts. Mine started to do that right after an aligment, but I know is because the bolt sleeves are frozen and the guy at the shop had to really tighten the bolts to stay in range.

spray the U joints on your steering shaft with PB Blaster and see if that doesn't fix it. These steering shafts have unprotected U joints and are very prone to failure.

If that fixes it, replace your steering shaft ASAP. Don't let guys tell you that PB Blaster fixes it for good, it does not, not to mention it could be a life safety issue if its bad. If it is the shaft, the next symptom is stiff spots while turning.

Steering shafts can pop in 2 ways, U joint failure, and ones with collapsible shafts can pop when you go over speed bumps like my Camry does.

Just checked on the lower control arm. The bushing is dry with not much spring back also you can see movement on the outside where it connects to the frame, fresh marks on it. I checked it a month ago but it just got worse I guess.

Check this. It is gradual at first but mine comes and goes. PB blaster is a temporary band-aid. When it shows up and gets really stiff it will surprise you its along the lines of no power steering but only in certain places while turning. I am having my intermediate shaft replaced on Friday.
