The windshield washer on my 2014 Tacoma PreRunner turns on intermittently without the washer switch being manually activated. It will turn on sometimes when starting the vehicle, (I have been careful to make sure that I am not inadvertantly activating the switch when turning the ignition key). It is almost impossible to shut of the washer motor once it starts. It will pump out the whole fluid resevoir and the washer motor will continue to run. The only way to get the washer motor to stop is manually rotate the wiper switch to the delay, slow or fast wiper setting. Depressing the washer switch has no effect as I thought it might be sticking. It is my thinking that there may be an internal short with the wiring in the steering column but this is only a guess on my part.

    Any suggestions?

You must have a very clean window. Do the wipers come on with the washer fluid or just thr pump?

Thanks Dan. I was trying to avoid bringing to dealership if there was an easy fix, while knowing that in this case that might not be possible.

The wipers will come on with the washer pumping washer fluid. Sometimes after many attempts at rotating the switch through all the settings multiple times I can eventually get the pump to stop. It is like it is stuck on the washer setting when it is in the off position. Turning to the washer setting and back to the off position has no effect. Turning to the delay, slow or fast setting does turn off the pump but of course the wipers are on and operating accordingly. When I return to the off position the washer comes on again with the wipers and will continue to run.

    Warranty, warranty, warranty....

My very first day of ownership - the day I picked up my truck from the dealership - my windshild washer motor didn't work. I made them fix it 'on the spot'.

While you're within your 3/36 warranty, ALWAYS take the truck to the dealer for warranty work. You're already paying big $$ for a truck - you don't need to spend more time and $$ on something that should be working flawlessly for at least 3 years.

Agreed with everyone else with warranty. My guess is its a bad switch and will need replaced. They should be able to fix it fairly quickly. I'd do it before the pump.burns out from running dry.
