I understand OME 885x can add 2 to 2.5" lift on TRD 4x4 OR.

I take it that means using 5100 set at 0 will result in 2.5" less down travel hence a harsher ride than stock coil.

My question is, are the OME shocks longer to match the coils?

Or is the reduced down travel actually better for the components ?

    Thanks.

I ran 886x coils on both 5100s (set at 0) and OME struts. Overall height and suspension travel was exactly the same.

since you have tried both, do you remember if they are both the same length? which one are you using now?

I have 885x with 5100's @ 0 and got about 2.25" of lift with a brush guard installed. I added the 1/2 spacers without the need for extended studs (just flip the bolt nuts upside down) for a perfect 3" lift. The ride is better than stock (stock coils had 108,000 miles and shocks had 56,000).

ok, I checked the specs for the OME 90021 and 5100 specs, and it does look like 5100 has an extra 0.5" of travel. their 5100 document says between 0.5 to 0.75, but the 5100 specific to tacoma specs is 0.5" longer travel than the OME nitro shock specs. or 5" vs 5.5" travel.
So if the coil extends it by 2.25, then OME shock travel is only 2.75" vs 3.25" shock travel for 5100. setting 5100 to 2.5 will leave 3" of travel (still longer than OME shock+ome coil), but stiffer due to pre load on stock coil.

Tacorriendo, what did you use for the rear?

I think they were the same length, but not positive. Dowward travel was the same though. Maybe because other limiting factors like UCA and LCA.

I ran those setups on my previous truck. I have an RCD lift on my current truck.

If you are comparing the two to buy, go with OME. Better ride quality IMO.

5100's for 3-4" lift. Different part number than the regular. And I lift via air bags. Still searching for a good leaf pack that will give me a smooth ride without the need for blocks or AAL's for lifting.

I agree do OME shocks. better quality and designed for that coil.
