98 Tacoma

I'm new here. I have a 98 Tacoma with a 2.4. It's my work truck to get to an from job sites. I want to start working on it engine wise with some mods . Maybe intake, Exaust ect. Gonna give it to my son in a year. But want to fix up by making it a bit faster and looking nice sounding nice via paint and body. Any ideas without having to do major work on motor.
