Potentail purchase, rust questions...

I've read the thread covering the rust issues, but most seem to be on the 05-06 MY trucks.

The truck I'm looking at is a 09 with 88K for 23K. I took some pictures of the frame rails and I was hoping more knowledgeable people could tell me if the rust is just surface or is it more?

The 3rd pic from the bottom is the pinch weld.

It all looks like surface rust to me nothing major just a wire brush and recoat

But where you should check is on the inboard side of the frame near the catylitic converters where the frame starts to curve up

That's were most rust issues start to pose a problem perhaps ask to have it put up on a lift to inspect further

The other photos don't look to bad, some surface rust.... but the 3rd one looks pretty bad but it's hard to tell how bad from the photo, you could clean and wire brush the frame and paint it.... I would check the car fax history to see if it's been up north where there's a lot of salt, you might want to look for one from some where else that's up to you, and welcome to Tacoma World....

 

Thanks for the responses, I have the carfax and it is a 1 owner from the northern Kentucky area (where I live). I looked at the inside frame rail near the cats today and they are clean. The pinch weld rust seems like it might have been from a jack? I am not sure the kind of jack these trucks use. The last 2 tacomas I looked at seem to have the surface rust as pictured, was just wondering if this is something of a concern. Thanks again for he help.
