Actually, regrinds are more expensive than new grinds. By $3-500.

Thanks, didn't know that. Just thought that some of the idle area of the lobes would be removed to get more relative lift and duration. It's clear I'm not a cam grinder. :tinfoilhat:

I find it depends a lot on what the car started with. For example, if you put an aftermarket air box on a 400HP+ twin turbo engine, odds are the manufacture spent a pretty penny figuring out what was the optimal air-box configuration was to start with. Adding a better air flow design probably won't increase the power much, since the OEM has way more money and engineering to play with then any aftermarket manufacturer. In such a setup you're 100 percent correct, all you do is add noise and you gain next to nothing in horsepower or torque.

Let's take a Tacoma though. The stock air intake was designed to grab air for a naturally aspirated engine. Then we go and stick the TRD supercharger under there. I won't waste my time with the math, but suddenly you have a much higher demand for air out of a system that was really designed for much less air. There's where I suspect you can make good power gains out of a CAI, or even a short ram intake.

Or maybe I just love hearing that whine, either way it makes me happy!
