I apologize if this has been asked before, I searched but could not find anything addressing this particular issue.

I have a Taco and today the frame finally gave through, punched a little hole in it. However, I am about 5 months late to get the buyback, and it sounds like Toyota won't be doing anything to remedy it.

My question is what are my next steps. I am not in a position financially to take this hit, and the car is most likely unsafe to drive. Guy at the service center said replacements out of warranty cost 11,000 dollars, for which I could just get another truck.

Sell private party? Get it repaired? Replace with junk yard frame? Has anyone had this issue, and what should I be looking to do.

Your profile says you have a 1995. The 15 year warranty ended long ago. Weld it up with some reinforcement plates.

X2. The warranty was for 15 years after the in-service date. If you do have a 1995, that means your warranty ran out in 2010. Have it plated and run 'er.

There are some kits for specific known rust threw areas. Have to be welded or find someone to plate weld. I would address the rest of frame at this point also. Clean and coat.

Sorry that 1995 is old. The truck is a 1999, fell outside of the warranty by a few months. I called Toyota, they told me there was nothing they could do

With reinforcement plates, am I just staunching the problem? The frame undoubtedly will continue to rust elsewhere

Also, could anyone ballpark what the cost of getting that welded on would be?

I can't in good conscious sell the truck as is, but maybe after I welded it on I could sell it, disclosing the frame issue of course. What impact would this have on the overall value?

    Thanks

To me, I would rather buy the truck now before any frame repairs. Then I can do the repairs however I see fit. I've seen some Toyota trucks around here with patched frames that just look horrible.
