2014 Base Cab, no steering wheel controls to access Voice Commands

Hi, I have searched some of the threads, but am unable to find a solution to my problem. The head unit in the truck has voice commands, but no steering wheel controls to access it. Toyota has admitted the problem, but will not help me with a solution. The head unit is clearly meant for steering wheel controls as the presets are hard to hit while driving, and when using the volume control your fingers hit the side of the screen. I was able to set up the voice commands, but it is impossible to access the system without the button on the wheel. I am open to replacing the head unit with another, or some how adding the steering wheel controls onto my truck. Has anyone done this with a 14 base cab? I found the thread for adding the controls on a 13 but my steering wheel is different. I do not need Nav or much else but would love to be able to make a phone call and adjust the volume without taking my hands off the wheel.

Any help would be appreciated!

 

Yikes, a new truck with no steering wheel controls! I am so babied with that, not sure I could go without. Let us know what you find out. Seems like you should be able to add them.

Yes, I gave up on Toyota, and installed a Parrot Voice Commands unit for $150 plus the $45 harness for Toyota. The unit works great, but I am still stuck with a radio that cannot really be operated with your hand while you are driving.

The good news (sort of) is that I am invited to a Tundra Focus Group sponsored by Toyota to get owner input for the new Tundra redesign. I guess it will not be coming out as a 2015 if they are still gathering opinions. I will be sure to ream them on the pathetic treatment of anyone who buys the base cab. I will also let them know about the terrible gas mileage and horrible acceleration of the 2.7 four. And what happened to the arm rest for the bench seat? I could go on and on, but you already know.
