    Depends.

Are the boards planed smooth or are they rough. The former will actually increase your gas mileage based on the geometry of the stacks. The latter will definitely create more drag so you should expect to see any where from 0.75 to 1.48 mpg loss. (quick calculations YMMV)

once you get up to speed, you will be flying and thus lose the friction of the tires, and your mpg will go way up.

It should help, unless the lumber is from Home Depot or Lowes with all the warped lumber it may decrease your MPGs.

This will definitely hurt your gas mileage. I'm sorry but I think other members' math is wrong. However you can expect to see at least 12% gain in penis length, accompanied by 34% more chest hair

Wood is biodegradable so eventually it'll conform to the shape of your truck. The longer you have it on, the more fuel efficient your truck gets.

Are those stock leafs? Is that a table saw in front seat? When I hauled like that I let the forward stack cantilever over tail gate. I did eventually break a leaf. Toyota replaced under warranty. Of course they didn't know. Used my 1st taco 17 yrs. I 'm a carpenter so you understand the abuse.:)

    Yep that's a table saw.

Cantilevering is a good call. I want to build some racks to support long pieces but I want them to be collapsable/removable...so I'm not sure what to do yet.

Yea they're stock leafs. I was worried about that for sure, especially with how bad the roads are around here. But I don't haul like that very often (usually I use the company's truck)...so I figure I can push it once in a while haha.

I think I broke my springs on a deck package. Heavy treated shit. I made a wood rack that was supported inside bed. Carriage bolts held it together. Partner would help lift in or out. Hated that thing.now they make those bed extenders. Of course I have a 18 ft trailer now! But hell,if it ain't your yruck you can drive it like you stole it!! Still wonder how that table saw fit! Looks like my ridgid portable.lol

if you paint the boards with a barber poll design mpg will definitely increase.
