Trying to diagnose a slight rough idle/ missing out

    That little nub sticking through the surface of the thermostat "body" next to the main opening. It's basically a one-way valve which allows any tiny pockets of steam to bubble back through the system when the thermostat is closed.

    Some cheap parts store thermostats eliminate it. In some engines it makes a big difference, though.
