My center console lid in my 07 Tacoma had a broken latch, leaving it open all the time. I could not find a reasonably priced replacement online, junkyards, etc. and a new one only came with a $300 new console.

I found the spring that popped out when it broke, by using a magnet. The latch had apparently broken 2 little plastic tabs that fit in a groove within the console lid. These had to be replaced with something in the same place that would keep the latch from coming back out.

I drilled holes where the tabs had been, put 2 small finishing nails in the holes, and clipped the nails short where only the heads were exposed, to ride in the grooves. I glued in place with JB Weld. I would have had a problem if it was not a good fit because I had to pry with screwdrivers to allow those nail heads to slip under the edge as I replaced the latch. I don't think it would have been easy to get the latch back out if there was a problem. but it worked out so I thought I would share this fix. New member-first post.
