Just bought another Tacoma to add to my fleet. Hence the screen name, I own a swimming pool service & inspection business here in California. And after 4-5 years of Ford's (No real complaints with them) I just find Toyota's more worry free overall, and a better return on investment.

Brief history, I have owned about seven Toyota trucks since '92. Had a '92 base reg cab, 2wd, 22RE , then later a '98 X-Cab, 2wd, 2.4L 5-lug, then an '07 reg cab, 5-lug, '07 & '08 PR, 4.0 AC's, then mist currently my '14, 2.7, DC, PR & just picked up today a 2010, PR, SR5, DC, 4.0 that I picked up used, that was traded in at a Mercedes Benz dealer.

Few questions, as I have for gotten what my '07 & '08 4.0 trucks were like, and my '14 has some things different than my 2010.

First off, I forgot how quick the 4.0L was. I read a few post here where some of you were complaining how slow or weak the 4.0 engine feels. I've been DD'ing a 2.7, DC that's always loaded so my new 2010 feels like a rocket, almost left rubber accidentally leaving the parking lot.

The seat material in the 2010, feels a lot softer (more comfortable) but seems less durable than my 2014 (Not sure if good or bad)

Test drove the truck three times before signing papers, has 57K miles on the clock, but feels almost like new still. One thing that sort of bugs or worries me though is this thunk, that happens intermittently. Basically coming off the freeway, then to a stop. When waiting at the light, sometimes 5-10 seconds after stopped there is a jolt or thunk like the trans shifted but you are still, with foot still on brake pedal.

I didn't say nothing to my wife, she drove it home 28 miles from dealer and she mentioned the truck did it twice while she was driving home (slightly worried here, as I didn't get a warranty *because Toyota right*) Other than that minor nuisance, everything else feels drum tight, and almost like new. I have no idea what this truck retailed for new, but the dealer was asking $25,990, marked down (On sale) this weekend to $22,900. I left the dealer at $20,500 + Lic & Tax (Not sure if this is a good deal or not?) but Blue Book put the truck right at $20K for "Good Trade-In, so I don't feel like I got ripped off. CarFax shows no accidents, stories or questionable items.

What do you guys think? Also is there anything weird or interesting about '10 MY 2nd gens, I need to know or watch out for? My '07 & '08 were bombproof, so I'm hoping this will be the same? Does this truck have the bad rear leaf-packs or springs everyone is always talking about? My '14, DC has the 4 leaf-pack setup, and works flawlessly with no noise (even with 500-600 lbs in the box) I haven looked under this 2010, as it's dark outside right now.

    Obligatory photo of new truck.

Beautiful truck, just curious. What kind of mpg's do you get using it how we do for work? I'm in a mostly hilly area, and my '14 2.7, DC, PR is getting 17.5 avg. which is a major improvement from the '13 F-150, EcoBoost I sold because of 11-12 mpg's using it for pool service.

I haven't used the new '10 , 4.0 yet (waiting to get my logo and decals on it first) but am curious if it will be equal or worse than my 2.7.

That's really good for lots of short, on and off stops. I think I take a penalty for having two days up in the hills, where if have a few 6% grades and such. I personally do anywhere from 26-30 pools a day. And my two other guys touch at least 30-36.

It seems like with these Tacomas, you either got the one with a V10 or the Prius motor. As everyone's results are all over the board.

    Thanks for the insight.

Since I got this truck used, dealer only had one key, and one key fob. How hard, or dificult is it to get a second key? Mercedes dealer I bought the truck from is no help.

Quick question about blue tooth with my 2010, SR5. My 2014 is a base, but has the nice touch screen, with BT and music streaming through my phone.

My new to me, 2010, which is a higher trim (SR5, has JBL etc..) has BT connectivity, but seems like it doesn't stream, or I just haven't figured it out yet.

As crazy as this sounds, I feel like the base stereo sound in my 2014 is better, than the "upgraded" JBL in my 2010. Also the voice prompts on the 2014 are heard through all speakers. On my 2010, unless I have something not adjusted properly, it sounds like you only get sound from the driver side speaker?

Does anyone know if the blue tooth on the 2010 is only suppose to play back out of one speaker on the driver side? My 2014 plays out of all of the speakers, but the 2014 has a completely different Radio interface, so it's possible it's differnt.

We just picked up a Pre Runner also, a 2010 DCLB SR-5 package. They sure hold their value, and still not sure if we got a deal or got hosed. It had 23 K on it for miles, and about spotless, and gave 23 for it with a Toyota platinum warranty included. The truck came from N.C. and has a clean car fax also. Not sure what are options and what is standard, it's a lot fancier than my 07,and has cruise, power everything, plus a back up camera. The first trip through the mountains it averaged 22.1 and around town is getting over 19. Can't beat that.
