OEM mirror to aftermarket camera

Is it possible to wire the OEM mirror with the LCD screen to an aftermarket camera? I have been searching the forum with no luck.

Background: I found a mirror with the LCD screen at a junkyard for $10. I do not have a camera in my tailgate, i have a 2006 tacoma, I am going to check for the wiring harness but doubt it is there.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

 

It's easy to integrate
All of them (factory and aftermarket) use some variation of RCA connections. Post pics of the wires spliced opened. We'll get it wired up for you!

EDIT: Sony backup cameras were on crazy clearance sale not too long ago. Saw them at Best Buy. Didn't need one myself. Hoping this helps in your online/brick and mortar search.

 

Here is a picture of the connector at the mirror side. I found a link to a page here that shows the legend of what each pin represents. I am wondering if i purchase an aftermarket camera, will i be able to wire it up to the mirror?

Any and all help would be much appreciated. I don't really care about the auto dim, really just want the backup camera to work.

 

You will be able to.
What you need to do now is peel back the insulation around the wires (usually a black plastic/rubber type material surrounding all the wires) so that we can see what wires you have to work with.

Yep. So there are a couple of ways to approach it. You could disassemble the mirror and trace the wires to the screen and that would determine how each one needs to be wired (easiest way in my opinion).
Or, try to come across a wiring diagram or pinout of the mirror.
Either way will have the same end result.
As a side note, I hope you have a bunch of wire. ;-)

 

Do you know what year and model the rear view mirror came from?

 

I believe it came from a 2011??? ish TRD off road.

 

I disassembled the whole mirror and here is what i found. Still confused as to where i would put the camera inputs to get the screen to show an aftermarket camera.

 

The wiring diagram that I have seen shows two red wires, a light green, blue, white/blue, black, and white. Your harness doesn't match that. I'll take a look later and see if I can help some more

 

Cool, I really appreciate all your help. Could you explain the difference between camera + and camera -. I am only familiar with RCA connections, do cameras come with cords that can be split off into +/-

 

RCA is + and - a well. But you also need the shield wire. In addition, you need to have constant and ignition power to the monitor based on what I've seen so far

 

Okay. Got a better look at the pics. I can see the pins that are accessible on the back of the board. Is it possible to trace those pins to the wires on the harness? If you can tap in to them at the wires, it would make everything much easier!
If you can mark down which color wire each pin corresponds to, it would help us go further on this. You'll simply be tapping in to existing vehicle wiring (with fuses, of course). And the other wires will go to the RCAs.
EDIT: Most of the pins are labelled as I can understand. Although, there are a few that I'm not sure what type of signal it will be looking for. Specifically: ALS5V, LGHLEV, and AMV. These likely aren't required to have the camera working. But, we are much closer now!
