Just a bunch of old crap
I'm awed that my maternal grandfather survived the beach invasion (US Army, Utah Beach) that day. He never talked about it, and after he died many years later, my grandmother gave me all of the newspaper clippings that she saved about him and his crew during WWII. His crew shot down the first German bomber that flew over Iceland. He also did tours in England, part of Italy, and obviously France. My grandmother told me about how for years he would dream about it and wake up diving to the floor from the bed yelling "COVER" and other things. He lived to be 64, and you'd never see a single sign of PTSD in that man. He was a role model to me (I lived with him most of my childhood), a leader, a handyman, a good husband and father, a ridiculously hard worker, a sports fan, and a patriot.

He is now buried right by the flag from the USS Arizona out in the vet's cemetery in north Phoenix. My family gave me all of his medals after he passed, and they sit framed next to my father's Vietnam medals.
