About two years ago I installed a TRD quick shifter to replace my old sloppy stock one.

I did some searches and couldn't find anything on this problem in particular.

The shifter itself is in great shape, but whatever is underneath broke, I can still get it into forward gears but the shifter moves in a circular pattern, following the ball around. First is tough to catch and reverse is impossible.

I took a short video of it going through some of the gears and moving the shifter around. Uploading it now: http://youtu.be/KosVADijA6k

Does anyone know what it was that broke, and where to find that part?

I'd say remove the three remaining bolts of the shifter assembly, and with the way it was acting, the problem should be in your hand. It wouldn't be the first time the extended stub for the short shifter sheared off, or the stock shift lever where the short shifter stub attaches.

It was the piece that holds the shifter in the top part that is bolted to transmission, blue and black rubber/plastic ring. $40 at the dealership. 15 minute fix just needed to wait a few days on the part.
